AEA Summer Training Program

June 1- July 24, 2026 • Washington, D.C.

American University’s Department of Economics has been chosen as the next host of the prestigious American Economic Association (AEA) Summer Training program, a critical pipeline into the economics profession for students for over 50 years.  Beginning in June 2026, AU will host 40 students over eight weeks each summer to take pre-doctoral coursework in mathematics, microeconomics, econometrics, and research methods, while receiving valuable mentorship and taking advantage of Washington, DC’s unparalleled concentration of economists, think tanks, research institutions, and policy organizations.  As host, American University will serve as a critical hub for mentoring, curriculum development, and community-building that supports these aspiring economists in their journey toward graduate study and beyond. During their two months at AU, students will live together in apartments in Nebraska Hall as they receive intensive training in microeconomics, math, econometrics, and research methods with AU’s Department of Economics faculty.

Students admitted to the AEA Summer Training Program receive an all-inclusive package covering all tuition, fees, transportation, living expenses, and a stipend for the summer.  Help us train the next generation of economists to ensure that a wide variety of perspectives are part of future economics and policy conversations.

Being a part of AEASP was a rewarding experience! It confirmed that pursuing a Ph.D. in economics was the journey for me and provided me with a community of so many like-minded individuals passionate about economics.”
